Today in History: Clarence Darrow
Today is the 150th anniversary of the birth of Clarence Darrow, who was born on April 18, 1857. Darrow was a lawyer well known for his defense of William D. Haywood, his fight against the death penalty for Leopold and Loeb, and probably most famously, for his unsuccessful defense of John T. Scopes in what is often referred to as the "Monkey Trial." The Scopes trial is where Darrow unsuccessfully defended Scopes for teaching evolution against William Jennings Bryan, despite the fact it is widely regarded that Darrow made the better argument.
