More Earthquake Information
As a follow up to yesterday's post about the 1906 San Francisco quake, the following are a range of sites with additional information about earthquake's in the California area. These are just a few of the resources available online providing access to information about recent and historical earthquake activity.
The Southern California Earthquake Data Center has a range of information including a map of recent earthquakes in California and Nevada, a searchable earthquake catalog of Southern California earthquakes from 1932 to the present, a clickable fault map of Southern California, and a clickable map of historical earthquakes in Southern California.
U.S. Geological Survey's listing of California Earthquake History 1769-Present provides a list of all earthquakes with a magnitude of at least 6 and provides the date, time (GMT), latitude and longitude, magnitude and location.
The USGS Earthquake Hazards Program - Northern California provides maps of the entire California and Nevada area, as well as maps of Long Valley, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Parkfield. They also provide a list of recent earthquakes, for each area, so you can check out the most recent earthquakes in the Los Angeles area including three yesterday and already one this morning. They also provide real time shaking maps when an actual earthquake occurs.
